Personal Appendix N
Seems like the best way to kick off a new blog about TTRPGs is with a Personal Appendix N.
The D&D Rules Cyclopedia
This one was the first RPG I ever read, and while I'm not too enamored with D&D, I've always looked fondly back on the book that attempted to model everything you could do in a fantasy context, from lockpicking to managing a feudal realm.
HERO System
I still love this system. An RPG that didn't require any supplements and yet still made many good ones.
Fate
My first narrative RPG. I eventually grew disillusioned with it, but it opened an entire realm of gaming for me.
Cortex
I will always love this RPG. It made me realize how much game I want in my role playing game, but this one is special to me.
Legacy: Life Among the Ruins
A narrative RPG (and my first PbtA) that showed me you can have narrative mechanics, but still get some fun game.
Genesys and 2d20
And here we are: rich, narrative core mechanics with the kind of feat-based builds that I love.
